You're not a nerd | 5v3n.com  →
HELLO BLOGOSPHERE how are you??? Long time no see! 7 months without a post. OK I confess – I’ve been trapped by the below 140 virus the last couple of months. But it were 140 characters & some reactions that brought me here again. Finally. So what’s the matter? During the last year, I realized a lot of people claiming to be nerds. It seems to have became quite fashionable. Which is...

kylewritescode: I launched Facto yesterday. It’s a project I’ve been wanting to build for a while, and I finally got around to making it a reality over the past 24 hours or so. While building, I had a bit of a “whoa” moment thinking about what it really takes to launch a project these days, and why there’s no…

– Initial thoughts on the GF2 announcement — Satellite — Craig Mod That’s pretty much what I am after as well. I think a Leica M9 is an incredible sexy and capable camera (without ever having used one) and the only full-frame camera I’d be interested in. But financially it’s just so out of reach. ...

jarin: Posted via email from Jarinheit | Comment » I’m stoked about diaspora’s general idea. What I’m not so stoked about is the fact that in order to contribute, you have to sign an agreement that looks to me as if they wanted to crowdsource the project - and sell it the results on their own account. That leaves a bitter taste. Could somebody please tell me...

Coming from Java, it’s likely you share my simple “for-each-loop”-fixation: tags = ["ruby", "rails", "java"] concatenated_tags = "" tags.each { |tag| concatenated_tags << "#{tag}, " } concatenated_tags # => "ruby, rails, java, " #now, remove the unnecessary comma and space at the... Even if that may be a beginner tip, the general discussion it provoked is quite important: clarity over...

Titanous: Mailman Released! →
I just released my Ruby Summer of Code project, Mailman as a gem. You can install it by running gem install mailman. What is Mailman? Mailman is an incoming email processing microframework. You point it at a source of email, such as a POP3 account or a Maildir, and it will execute routes… That seems pretty amazing - I’ll sure have a look at this project.

Adieu, tumbl blog... Hello tumblr channel!
Using tumblr for some months, I realize that I tend to be distracted by my own smaller posts. Located somewhere between micro-blog and blog, I don’t have the necessary willpower to use tumblr & keep this a focused blog. I’m going to move to a toto based blog hosted at heroku, which I’ll use as a “classical” blog. Toto is a 300 sloc Ruby scripted stripped down...

Augmented Reality Prototype for the N900
I’m quite amazed by this little piece of trigonometric wizardy - it’s basically some 2d markers printed on a sheet of paper that are used to render some 3d objects into your video according to the angle of your phone in realtime. Crazy polka tune not included ;-): The author resides at rojtberg.net. Did I mention that I’m stoked?

N900 Firmware Update
Just in case the OTA-Update does not work, here’s how I updated my n900 to PR1.2 using the Maemo Flasher tool on my Mac OS. I expected it to totally rip everything off the phone, but I didn’t even need to backup the media files since they were untouched. The built in backup-software does a great job, you don’t even have to reorganize your spaces after having re-importing your...

Apple, Microsoft & Google in a nutshell
marco: “Microsoft—in a nutshell—is a company that had one successful product that we are all beholden to—that then used that capital to buy other people’s products and ruin them. They are not bad people, but they do stab their friends in the back. Also, they are a bunch of nerds, which is probably why they have never managed to produce a decent interface. Google—in a nutshell—is a company that...
